Digital Cameras - Best Tips For Shopping

By Aaron Bell

Shopping for a digital camera may very well be a challenging task. Before you invest some money into one, it's best to have some knowledge so you know you're getting what you need.

The ability to take a photo and share it with others is rather a fun and exciting thing to do. I'll explain some of the best features for cameras, below.

Resolution - Your resolution is going to play a big role in whether or not your photos come out clear and sharp. Resolution is measured in pixels. Obviously, the more pixels a camera has, the higher the resolution will be.

Zoom - If you're looking for "true" zoom, your camera will need Optical zoom. Optical zoom has been around for generations. When you zoom in, the lenses adjust to bring the image closer.

A camera with digital zoom does not have a zoom at all. It simply increases the size of the pixels as if you're zooming in on a picture already uploaded on your computer. Digital zoom does nothing.

Lens & CCD Size - If you're looking for well defined pictures, you will want a larger CCD. There's about 3 different kinds of lens sizes, available today.

Portable cameras usually have a lens that is perhaps 0.25" in diameter. These are great for everyday, outdoor use. It's a camera you can throw in your purse, or pocket.

Almost all mid-range cameras will offer a 1" lens in diameter. These will take really great pictures outside as well as having little problems with pictures indoors.

Larger cameras fall into the SLR range. Their lens size is usually around 1.5" in diameter. These types of cameras can be as easy to use as the point and shoot ones.

They give you the ability to control shutter speed and usually offer 15-20 megapixels or more for some quite brilliant looking photos even in low light conditions.
